Mr. Fitzgerald has more than 40 years of wet marine experience, principally in Hull & Machinery, Protection & Indemnity (P&I) for tug and barge fleets and Ocean Cargo coverage. His experience enables him to provide consulting with regard to all aspects of wet marine insurance, especially underwriting and claims.

As a marine broker he has designed, marketed and serviced Builder’s Risks, Ship Repairers, Charterer’s, Wharfinger’s/Landing Owner’s, Bumbershoots, Offshore Packages, and Freight Forwarder coverages, including Air Cargo Legal, NVOCC, Warehousemen’s Liability and Freight Forwarder’s E&O. He also has extensive experience in handling large and/or difficult marine claims.

Mr. Fitzgerald earned his bachelor of science degree in economics from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. His first position was as a marine specialist with Johnson & Higgins in Minneapolis, whom he joined in 1975. In 1978, Fitzgerald joined Marsh & McLennan’s Dallas, Texas, office as a Marine Manager and was named Assistant Vice-President in 1980 and Vice-President in 1982. While with M&M he serviced all wet marine placements for the Dallas location. In 1997 he joined Credit General Insurance Company as Marine Manager and Underwriter handling a book of Texas and Louisiana energy support business as well as West Coast fishing vessels.

In 2000 Mr. Fitzgerald joined Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) fka Fireman’s Fund McGee Marine Underwriters (FFMMU) in Dallas as a Senior Underwriter Ocean Marine handling Ocean Cargo, Hull, P&I, Yachts, Primary and Excess Marine Liabilities, Marinas, Docks & Piers, and Boat Dealers. He retired from AGCS the end of January 2017.

Fitzgerald became associated with Robert Hughes Associates in March of 1999 and will provide independent consulting and expert witness testimony with regard to the wet marine industry with emphasis on underwriting and claims handling.
