  Mr. Jolstad provides consulting and expert witness testimony in the many areas of property, general liability, business interruption, excess, builders' risk, and workers' compensation coverage. In addition to handling coverage issues, Mr. Jolstad has extensive consulting experience concerning claims handling practices, standards, bad faith, and unfair claims settlement practices. Other areas of expertise include claims administrator and agent/broker errors and omissions, professional liability, duties, obligations, and carelessness. Mr. Jolstad has worked for and with insurance companies, self-insured funds, self-insured employers, third-party administrators, public and private corporations, and governmental entities. Mr. Jolstad provides 27 years experience in the property and casualty insurance industry. He is a licensed Texas agent and adjuster and has attained his workers' compensation and casualty claims law designations.

Mr. Jolstad grew up in Portland, Oregon. He attended Portland State University where he later earned his B.Sc. in administration of justice. His career in the insurance industry began in 1980 when he joined Industrial Indemnity in Portland as a claims examiner.

He joined Safeco Insurance Company, based in Lake Oswego, Oregon, in 1984 where he acted as the Examining Lead Adjuster. His responsibilities included training, developing and directing seven employees in the workers' compensation department, handling complex claims investigations and litigated cases.

In 1987 he was appointed by the mayor of Portland to the position of Chairman for the Fire and Police Disability and Pension Task Force. This task force was charged with analyzing, revising and recommending changes to the disability and pension program of the City of Portland’s fire and police employees. While serving the City of Portland he worked for Alexsis Risk Management Services, a subsidiary of Alexander & Alexander, Inc., as an assistant claims manager.

Mr. Jolstad was transferred to Alexander & Alexander’s Phoenix office in 1989 where he was responsible for marketing workers’ compensation programs and developing and servicing risk management programs. His duties included sales identification, prospecting, statistical and financial analysis, research, loss forecasting, cash flow analysis, program design, claims review and many other various tasks related to the insurance and risk management industries.

In 1994 he moved to Dallas, Texas, where he joined Maclean, Oddy & Associates, Inc., as the vice president, risk management services. His duties were to develop, retain and service new business, specifically actuarial funding analyses, self insurance programs, brokerage and risk management consulting.

Since joining Robert Hughes Associates, Inc., in early 1995, Mr. Jolstad has been responsible for the development of new business and the servicing of actuarial, insurance consulting and risk management accounts for both existing and new clients.
